I've been working away on my latest painting: maison à colombages. Painting from a photo I took in Rennes.
I find however, that it is a stuggle and reveals some shortcomings with Oil Pastels.

There is a lot of detail to communicate, and the Oil Pastel crayon by itself is too cumbersome for the task. Thankfully I can thin it out with turpentine and use a very small brush, but this process of thinning and painting, thinning again etc etc is not efficient and defeats the immediacy of the oil pastel.
I will have to make a some change to my process, maybe eliminate detail. But the very fact that the oil pastel allows the ability to use a small brush, entices one toward detail, so it's a kind of struggle.
